Everything you need to know about acne.
Acne
is one of the most common skin disorders in Australia and New Zealand, affecting tens of
millions of people. Some people don't consider having just one or
two pimples a month "acne", but acne is a general term for the
different types of pimples, bumps, blackheads and whiteheads that most
people have at some point in their lives. Acne is especially
common during the teen years, and it can appear as mild to moderate or
severe in people of any age. There is no cure for acne, and
blemishes are almost impossible to prevent, but using ThermaClear on
mild to moderate inflammatory acne may help prevent new pimples from
maturing to full-growth.
Acne and your skin.
Skin varies greatly from person to person, but everyone's contains
sebum-producing sebaceous glands attached to hair follicles. The
greatest concentration of these glands is found on the face, chest,
back and scalp. Normally, the sebum produced by the sebaceous glands
spreads over the skin's surface to keep your hair and skin moisturized.
However, when excess sebum combines with dead skin cells it sometimes
gets trapped in the hair follicle and clogs the pore, causing acne to
form. Acne bacteria can thrive under these conditions, sometimes
creating inflammation or what is commonly known as a pimple.
